unni of the month: lynn unni
Ahnyeong!
My name is Lynn. I’m a Korean-American Ajumma, born and raised in the Chicagoland area.
What does it mean to be an Ajumma?
Growing up, I always saw Ajummas as grumpy old women with a perm and never wanted to be one. As I get older, I’m starting to embrace aging. I now look up to Ajummas and I’m ready to become one because they’re so fierce and loving. They are always busy taking care of everyone and despite their tough exterior I know they have a lot of love to give.
Why did you join Ajumma Rising?
I joined Ajumma Rising because I found it hard to make new friends as an adult with young children. Plus, I lived abroad in South Korea for 8-years and lost touch with many of my old friends back at home. I really wanted to meet other women that were similar to me so I took the chance and joined Ajumma Rising. Even though I’m not a good dancer, I really enjoy dancing and hanging out and sharing stories with other Ajummas.
What are your hobbies/interests?
Honestly, I’ve been a hardworking Ajumma and I don’t have many hobbies or interests. I now consider dancing with the Ajummas as a new hobby. I’ve also started working on becoming a minimalist in order to live a more simple life.
What is your job, career, and/or talent?
I currently work in marketing as a product manager. In the past, I’ve been in charge of organizing and planning social events.
How can you help other Ajummas?
I can help other Ajummas with budgeting and helping them start retirement saving by providing resources.
